Before I officially started photography, Bows & Flechas was a blog. It was briefly titled "Teixeira House", which was supposed to chronicle our lives, travel, events, etc- but I decided that people might struggle with the pronunciation or spelling of our last name. Bows & Flechas as a name is a big blend of things- Bows & Flechas- Flechas being the Portuguese word for Arrows. My husband, Luis, is from Portugual, and also enjoys hunting, hence the "bows & arrows". Bows, for us girls, me and my daughter Penelope. Bows, also, in a play of words to reference our dog, Beau. I wanted a name that didn't just reflect me, but was a true definition of us, because I am more than just me these days.

I am a wife, a mother of two wild children, and a creative.
I started my adventure back in 2011, baking cakes. What started as a hobby and a fun thing to do for family events, eventually caught the eye of people around me searching for custom cakes for a reasonable price. I launced Central Jersey Cakes to much success. It was a home bakery business, but I pushed out bakery quality cakes, cupcakes, and other goodies weekend after weekend. Cakes are my first love, my true love, and something I still dabble in today; although mainly to share recipes, ideas, and making fun stuff for my kids.
When we started our family, I decided to "shut the doors" on my cake business. It was, as one would imagine, extremely time consuming. I wanted to dedicate time to raising our daughter, working my day job, and working on other projects.

Enter Bows & Flechas Photography.
Like most new moms, I was snap happy 24/7. I couldn't get enough pictures of this sweet girl. I had a hardly Canon DSLR that my husband gifted me years prior to photograph cakes, but it wasn't until I had a human subject that I really dove into learning the ins and outs of modern digital photography.
Taking pictures has always been a thing in my family. My maternal grandfather was a serious hobby photographer, and I also have several family members who professionally shoot weddings, families, and all kinds of subjects. I fell into it naturally and finally feel comfortable with my style, my work, and my business.

But what about that blog? Well that was always here. I post recipes, photo sessions, and all of my interior decorating projects. In 2019, I've added the option of offering my design services on a residential and commercial level. Although not classicly trained as a designer, it's something I've pursued whole heartedly, with a niche talent.

In addition to the exhausting list above, I also share details about our travels, health, and other personal moments. It's all here. So stick around, learn something, and spread joy.
